Colleen Gallagher, Commuter Services Coordinator, welcomes Bridgewater State University Class of 2016!
On the road to Bridgewater there are passengers and drivers…. DRIVERS WANTED!
Welcome Commuters!! This is your time to shine. You’re ready to embark on what is sure to be one of the best experiences of your life: college! As Commuter Services Coordinator, I would like to welcome you to Bridgewater State University, a place where you are certainly not going to blend into the background because you are the largest population of students on campus. How exciting is that?!
Since commuter students make up over 66% of the population here you should be looking forward to all of the opportunities you have to meet your peers. Now, I know some of you are thinking “I’m a commuter I won’t make any friends” or “how will I know what is going on on campus?” or even “I can’t participate in something because I am a commuter”. Do me a favor, take all of those negative thoughts and hesitancies and throw them out the window. The reality is that you CAN do anything you want here. You have the luxury to come and go as you please and choose to carve your own path here. While it may be a little more challenging to access services and programs, do not let that discourage you at all.
In my role, I often hear commuters share with me stories of how happy they are on campus because they got involved and made some really great friends and connections. Your experiences as a commuter student here are what you make of them. You spend much of your time in the driver’s seat; do the same at BSU. Hop into the driver’s seat, buckle up, and enjoy the ride that begins at Welcome Week. Our office is here to assist you in the transition and help you make valuable connections on campus. These next four years are going to be what you make of them so make them memorable and valuable.
The best way to begin your career here is on the right foot, the right path. The sooner you get involved and make a connection here on campus, the more comfortable and at home you are going to feel.
My hope is that you will all find your path here, you will all be happy and you will all feel welcomed. If I had to give you just one piece of advice, it would be to jump right in and take part in what our campus has to offer you.
Do you have any questions for me?! Please comment below and I will get back to you.
